Headband/Ear-Warmer with Bumps

Pattern for Headband/Ear-warmer with Bumps

Supplies needed:  loom with even number of pegs.  I used the purple loom for the one I made in the picture.
                                      knitting hook
                                      yarn needle
Yarn of your choice.  I used Vanna's Choice in Chocolate
You will need to know how to e-wrap, purl,  knit (not e-wrap), and how to do the super stretchy bind off to make this pattern.

Row 1.  Using two strands of yarn as one cast on the loom using the basic e-wrap.
Rows 2 and 3 .  k2, p2 * repeat around the loom
Rows 4 and 5. p1, (k2,p2) last 3 pegs k2, p1
Rows 6 and 7. p2,k2 *  repeat around the loom
Rows 8 and 9. k1, (p2,k2) last 3 pegs p2,k1

Keep repeating rows 2 -9 until the ear-warmer is the length you want.

You are now ready to cast off.  Use the super stretchy bind off method.  Wrap your yarn around the loom 4 times and then cut the working yarn.  Do NOT remove the loops on the pegs until the very end.  Put your yarn needle on the yarn and sew up through the 2nd peg, then down through the 1st peg.  Go up through the 3rd peg and down through the 2nd.  You will continue doing this around the loom.  You will be done with this bind off when you bring the yarn up through the 1st peg and then down through the last.  You are now ready to take the headband/ear-warmer off the loom.  Go ahead and make a knot and leave enough yarn to sew and hide.

I used the pattern above to make a hat and really love the way it turned out. Check out this post to see it.

  2. Thanks sunnysc243. :) I am glad you like the pattern. Did you check out the hat I made using the same pattern?

  3. I just saw the hat. Really cute! I'm going to give this pattern a try. Thanks for sharing!! So glad your craft show worked out well! I'm going to be doing my first in a few days and I have no idea how it will turn out, but nothing to lose.

  4. sunnysc243, Thank you so much for your kind comments. I would love to see your ear-warmer when it is done. If you can please post a picture or a link to your photo.
Good luck at your first show! I hope you sell a bunch and have fun.

  5. After the cast on, are all the k stitches real knit stitches? Is there anything significant with use of small k and capital K's?

  6. Yes, after the cast on all of the k stitches are Knit stitches. The small k's and capital k's are all the same. Not sure why I did that. Sorry if there was any confusion. I will go back and edit so all the k's match.

  7. late update, but I made the hat instead of the headband. I think it looks good, though a bit pointed at the top. I used a decreasing cast off but continued with the pattern and I think that is why it is so pointed. I'll post a pic on FB, Knitting Loom group so you can see it. I don't know if this link will work, but it's an album on my wall of FB. Love your stuff - thanks for your help! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2164143821680.2110520.1189142976&type=3

  8. sunnysc243, Thank you so much for your nice comments. I tried to use your link but, it does not work. :( I will look on the Loom group - I am pretty sure I am a member of that group. My hat that I made is not pointed, so it may be the way that you decreased. Did you break it into sections when you decreased or did you just cast off by 1/2? I always use the decrease by half and even did it on that hat. Hopefully I can see your picture soon.

  9. I broke it into sections. I'll try the 1/2 off. That's where you reduce around the loom by every odd (or maybe even) peg then just normal drawstring cast off -right?

  10. I bought the purple loom on Amazon (followed your link). A little nervous as the loom seems really big for my head. Hope it fits!

  11. Monica, I love my purple loom! I really think it will work great for you. I use my purple loom for all of my hats for adults.

  12. Does it work for the ear warmers, too? Seems about 3 inches too big??? I am 8 rows into this ear warmer and hoping I don't need to make it a mini infinity scarf, although it would be cute that way, too. Love the pattern so far... :) What is the diameter of your purple loom?

  13. And, do you happen to know of smaller round looms with even numbers of pegs that I could use for this pattern for children or smaller heads? The red knifty knitter is the right diameter for my daughter, but is odd number of pegs. I think it is 7 or 7 1/2 inches...Are there other brands that make round looms in even number of pegs or with pegs closer together like the round adult hat?

  14. Monica, yes the purple loom is what I use for my adult ear-warmers too. Unless you have a really small head I can't imagine it not fitting. Once the hat or ear-warmer comes off the loom it is not as stretched, so it is hard to judge the size of it when it is on the loom. The diameter of the loom is 10-1/4". And as for a smaller loom with an even number of pegs I always use the green loom. It has 36 pegs. How old is your daughter? I use this loom for hats for 4 years old and up.

  15. I have kept on knitting (I only get 1-2 rows done at a time right now with busy schedule) trusting it will come out and fit! :) I am almost done and will let you know how it goes. THANKS SO MUCH for always responding. I really, really appreciate it!

  16. I have actually now made two of these! I am very new to loom knitting, so I've only ever completed maybe 3 total projects. They are super cute. I used Woolease Thick and Quick (single strand) for the 2nd one. I just now need to weave in the ends for both. Any tips?

    ReplyDelete
  17. So glad you like the pattern. To weave in the ends I normally just put the yarn on my plastic needle and just weave it in that way. The bumps give you some places to "hide" the yarn. Just work it in a little and then cut the yarn. Would you mind to post pictures on my facebook page? I would love to see yours. https://www.facebook.com/pages/This-Mama-Loom-Knits/284620761551932

  18. Where can I find instructions for purl, knit (not e-wrap) and super stretchy bind off? I've been loom knitting for about a year now and I didn't know there was more than way to do it!

  19. OMG I am so stupid!!!!, LOL.....Do you use the PURPLE HAT loom or rectangle purple loom?

  20. do you use two strands during the complete process or just to cast on?

    1. t kinnie, you will use two strands the entire time. It is rare for me to loom knit without two strands. I like the look better.

  21. I am still new to loom knitting so please forgive my ignorance. You used a * symbol a few times can you explain what it means for the purpose of this pattern?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Darlann24, the * is just letting you know to repeat the 4 stitches the entire time around the loom for that row. Sorry if that was confusing.

  22. I am looking for a childs headband that is on a loom. I want to teach her to do it so I really need it to be fairly simple seeing as how I wont get to be with her when she makes it. Just on the phone.
    Thanks in advance

  23. I am fairly new to looming. You indicated you used the purple loom. How many pegs are on that loom (different brands use different colors). This is my first ear warmer and I am befuddled as to how to pick the right size loom to use! Love your pattern :-)
